Worked as a volunteer on the latest Sunday~
It was great to help operating such a big sport event. This was also my first time to work in the small hours. Although it was hard to focus without sleep, fresh air made me feel more comfortable and being willing to start working.
To organize a triathlon race is really difficult when there are three parts of racing, including swimming, cycling and running. I was asked to work in the position of registration and it was very busy when all of the participants should come and get their own electronic chips. Actually, the race quota was 1,800 people, which means that helpers who participated in registration had to communicate and introduce the tips of using the chips during that short period of time. I still felt a little bit stressful even though they had been divided into several sessions. What I mean is the organization can recruit more volunteers in this kind of big event.
Besides, there was a stuffy atmosphere inside the tents and which may cause dehydration of volunteers. Staying under a hot weather could enhance the risk of water loss, especially when we worked inside the downy tents. What I mean is the organizer should provide some fans to us in order to lower the temperature and avoid any risk of dehydration. We will also work harder willingly if she can satisfy our needs. At the end of the event, a supervisor tried to ask our suggestions and needs. This is important to retain volunteers by listening their opinions. On top of that, he could know more about its strength and weakness so to make improvement. To a new started organization, Sportsoho can gain more experience and reach its goals by holding this kind of big event. It should be compared to other sport organizers in order to figure out their own position and level inside this industry. I think the supervisor did a good job on this topic and we would like to serve them again if they can provide what we want and what we need.
Overall, this was an unforgettable and useful experience for me to work better in my future career.
